A primary goal of the Alabama Reading Initiative is to support the implementation of the Alabama Literacy Act.  The Alabama Literacy Act outlines the following: 

"Relating to public education; to establish the Alabama Literacy Act; to implement steps to improve the reading proficiency of public school kindergarten to third-grade students and ensure that those students are able to read at or above grade level by the end of the third grade by monitoring the progression of each student from one grade to another, in part, by his or her proficiency in reading."

The Alabama Numeracy Act is a transformative statewide initiative designed to equip elementary educators with the skills, support, and resources essential for success in the classroom and to elevate student achievement in mathematics. This comprehensive legislation tackles Alabama’s math crisis head-on by providing schools with intensive, targeted support. Key elements include placing K-5 math coaches in every elementary school, supplying high-quality instructional materials and curricula aligned with Alabama’s teacher-crafted standards, and offering robust training for both teachers and principals. Additionally, it implements focused interventions for students needing extra help and establishes accountability measures to ensure continuous progress across all schools.
